It can be a lot of fun watching the transit details of a package being posted to you. Especially when you live in rural Australia.
Australia Post has an “Express Delivery” system where there is guaranteed next day delivery for most urban areas, with a faster than normal service for rural and remote areas. I live rural, so I wasn’t expecting much!!
A couple of weeks ago it was time to review my laptop situation. The battery needs replacing, and so too do most of the keys on the keyboard. At the moment I can only see letters Q, W, F, G, J, K, Z and X. All the rest are totally worn off. Luckily I am an old-fashioned touch typist and was trained to type without being able to even see the keys on the old-fashioned clunky manual typewriters that we had access to. This laptop has seen me through many ups and downs of my life and into its impartial memory I have typed my woes, my fears, my joys, my crocheting patterns. My published books were birthed here and this blog has been built upon those missing keyboard letters.
There comes a time when even the best of things have to retire and a couple of weeks ago I realised that my laptop was at that point. With that realisation also came my phone bill and knowledge that I had just about paid off my phone…. Whoo hoo… let’s go shopping!
After a few days of researching on You Tube I decided that as I am a heavy user, I needed a heavy duty replacement. I’m also almost 70 and I need to be able to see the screen, so I made my decision. I’m going all out on a tablet which I hope will last me a huge chunk into my remaining years – the Samsung Galaxy S10 Ultra. Hugely excited I placed my order and was assured that it would arrive in 2-3 days.
It’s now 12 days and I have had such fun (or not) watching the tracking information. The tablet set off from Sydney, heading towards Brisbane on the same day it was actually supposed to be delivered to me. From there it came north to Ingham, a small town to the south of where I live. It sat there for a couple of days and the next tracking info was that it was in Innisfail – a bigger town about 2 hours drive north of me. That was two days ago. It’s got to be arriving soon I thought!! Hmmm.. Nope – for some inexplicable reason it wound up going all the way to Townsville – 2.1/2 hours drive south of me.
What makes this so much fun is that there is only one road you can travel up here in the Far North of Queensland. There is no other road unless you want to drive inland which is definitely not advised. In all its journeys back and forth between towns south of me and north of me, my tablet had to have been travelling that one road – and my house is on that road! My tablet has been blithely sailing back and forth in front on my house for the past several days. It’s travelled, according to Google, roughly 2,892.6km!!
I finally made the decision to phone the transport company and see what has happened and when I might expect delivery. As I went in search of the phone number, my doorbell rang. It was the transport guys with my tablet!!!
And that is why my blog is a little late today!
Whoo-hoo…. Time to play!
