Journeys #27

Today I have been talking with an angel.
Not all angels are heavenly creatures with wings. There are quite a few – more than we imagine – that are Earth Angels: people who, despite their own sometimes dire situation, still go out of their way to help others. People who just energetically GLEAM!
I know of people who make sure that the elderly have a warm, nutritious meal – when they are sometimes even older than the people they feed! I know people who give up their time to nurture animals that have been hurt or lost. I know of many such people who are unable to give financially, but who give so very generously of their time, and their skills. I know of people who have busy lives with work and family, but who will still stop and help someone who needs assistance. My home town is filled with such wonderful people. It’s what keeps this small community alive.
We are so often told only of the horrors of modern life – the hardships, the injustices. News media tell us of the difficulties people face, and all the while it is easy to see that the news reader’s concern is a mask, worn for the camera.
The angel I spoke with today is a lady who is doing it very tough, about as tough as it gets, yet she is concerned about other people. She has a beautiful smile in her care-worn face, and even though she lives a million miles from me, I can feel the love she holds for the humans of this planet. Even as she reaches towards the end of her life here on Earth, she is asking, “What can I do in the time I have left?”
It’s easy to watch the news on TV and see the horrors, and feel bad – and then just get back to our normal life, thankful that these hardships are not ours. But, for as long as we keep doing that, these hardships will continue. We each need to become one of the Earth Angels who help, and if we cannot, physically, for whatever reason, offer help ourselves, then let us make sure that those who do, know that they are so very appreciated.
Today, I ask that you reach out to an Earth Angel near you and just say, “Thank you. You are appreciated.”
