Journey #15
There are many times in life where we have to step into our Power. Maybe we are facing a hard decision; maybe the only real choice that we can make is one that will sit uncomfortably with those we love. Sometimes circumstances mean that you have to take a deep breath and deal with whatever is in front of you – however difficult.

When we have to step into our power in that way it is usually because we have been through a period where things have been pretty good, or at least, acceptable, but we had become comfortable and relaxed to the point where we were not challenged enough to have to draw upon the strengths we have hidden inside of us. And that can be a good thing – provided we don’t get lazy!
I’ve had cause to look at my hidden strengths in recent weeks, and for a little while I even forgot that they are there, waiting to be brought forward to assist me. I forgot that one of my super-powers is that I am resilient. Time and time again I have been knocked down – but I will not stay there, even though at times it has been tempting. Sometimes it feels as if there ought to be an Olympic medal for picking yourself back up… I’d definitely be a contender for Gold!
I have other super-powers too. Compassion, Empathy, and although I talk a lot, I am also a good listener. I have a curious mind – I want to learn and discover. I am a teacher, and I love helping others discover their inner strengths. Courage is not a power I would automatically acknowledge as mine, but there have been many, many times where it took courage to face a new day.
There is no doubt that we all have amazing gifts. Some we use on a daily basis; some we just pull out of our pocket when needed. And sometimes we have to be reminded that they are there.
This is your reminder. Whether you stand tall and shout to the world that you are here, or whether you stand on the edge of life and observe – think about your strengths. Write them down on a post-it and stick it on your fridge, your bathroom mirror – anywhere you can see that list and remind yourself every day. You CAN deal with whatever life throws your way.
